I do not have much faith in the idea that the USSR was using
magikal traditions upon which to base their own RV research.
Their research was seminal in the development of much of what
became remote viewing, in contrast to Dr. Rhine's which was more
pointed to human interaction via mind (telepathy).
Dr. Vasiliev and others were working with tests involving sketches
made by one person and 'seen' by another at a given distance,
for instance. And there were others including Kogan, Rsyzl
in Czechoslovakia, Tenhaef in Holland, etc.
Let's talk about 'derivation':
I'd seen a person doing what was called 'billet reading' This
is where everyone writes a question, seals it up in an envelope
and puts it into a hat - or a box. Then the 'psychic' takes
out one at a time (Johnny Carson) and looking pained, gives an
answer. Then he/she opens the envelope and reads the question.
(Wow - wonderful - applause - mystery)
I'd seen this done and was impressed. So I set out to learn
to do that. I'd already been impressed with a body of research
done in the USSR in color-sensing and children who could apparently
read a printed word with a fingertip. (not braille) (unless
it was written in red ink) and I knew about some other stuff
through some contacts at that time. I also knew about Carol
Liaros who taught totally blind persons to see with their fingertips.
So I began to try it and eventually girded my loins and did it
with a group of from 25 to 40 people (because our Sunday evening
Speaker had a flat tire and didn't arrive) as a trial.
No promises. Using my left hand, I held each envelope and
'saw' something I would describe. Then I opened the envelope.
All of them, not discarding one. Didn't get all of them but most.
Later, much later - It developed that the people I'd seen
doing this were using a trick. They all use it. You
open the first envelope after saying "sorry, I don't give
out my phone number" or whatever - and throw it away.
Then you pick up the second one. Actually, then, you are
answering the question in the envelope you first opened, not the
second one you are now holding. So you are always one
ahead and answering questions you have already had a chance to
read. I didn't know about that. (stupid
but understandable) (blush)
Now, my 'input' on this came from actually seeing it done, once
by a 'spiritualist medium' LOL, again by a person
whom I thought I could trust (but who was a magician in his spare
time) So - I had seen it done by a Spiritualist.
Card-carrying member of that Church. (who got it from a spirit
physician who lived under her chair) I had the advantage of knowledge
from the Soviet experimentation. I'd read articles about
and talked often to a person who knew Carol Liaros, who taught
the blind to see with their fingers, in New York.
You could possibly say that I had the inspiration of the Spiritualist
Church in learning this. LOL Right? You could
possibly say that I had the knowledge of the USSR work.
You could blame it on Carol Liaros in New York
(Ingo's home turf) hmmmm
The reason I've used this example is that there are several traditions
and actually seeing it done here. If you blamed it
on the Spiritualist Church -
Now, none of the three sources I quote were doing the exact same
thing. The Spiritualist was pulling a known trick as was
the magician. The USSR were quite serious about what they
were testing..... Dermooptics or skin sight Carol Liaros has been
lauded as a pioneer and lambasted as a phony - you choose - I
cannot.
However, taking the reins in my own hand, I thought it was learnable,
and learned it. Typical bullheaded Bevy. Most
of what I have done in Wall Street from the coffee futures fortune
that bought me a new house - to the stock-picking contests
- to many other accomplished things - and much crime work - are
the result of this one skill. RV from a hard target.
Curiosity and work - no x factor.
A good trick on me -
Should I give the credit to the Spiritualist Church?
:)
