ok this is what I got when I first heard of the sub
big hole on the right side (strabroard) with the hole blown outward and to the rear of the sub. Front end sunk first. half the crew dead.
half the crew shutting doors and moving to the back, but many more did not make that. The crews at the rear of the sub were still alive maybe 10-15 sailors.
after 4 days had past no one left alive. one or two remained near to the end of the four days, but drowned when they got too cold to hang on. They died very badly. Extreme truama to the mind, and a few may have committed suicide rather than face the black cold.
Sub sunk with an explosion from inside the front area. It set off other explosions. Deadly gas or fumes killed a few more before doors could be sealed. Capt. survived longer than most of them.
I had heard that a torpedo malfunctioned according to the news, and with this I agreed, but it malfunction because a sailor was playing with it, instead of doing what he was trained to do. I believe he wanted to scare someone by tripping a fuse, and thought he could stop it, or it would stop by itself....it didnt.
a signal was sent before the sub went down. But the capt. did not know exactly what happpened. so he couldnt tell them.
